The punk scene possessed Paris Fashion Week, and the culprit was none other than Vivienne Westwood. Creative director Andreas Kronthaler did more than surpass expectations on the Parisian runway: he subverted them entirely. True to Vivienne Westwood’s undying love of the underground, quintessential grunge classics merged with a masterful interplay of trending corporate chic. Embracing contemporary notions of casual suiting, Vivienne Westwood vexed pragmatic fashion enthusiasts with its chaotic yet captivating self-expression. Notably, and in true fashion of Vivienne Westwood’s theatrics, the models had their own version of a reveal on the runway.
Staged in the Pavillon Cambon and awash in a pale glow, an elegant staircase wove down to the catwalk. A glimpse of the next model’s look could be spotted through the staircase’s decorous railing, creating a breathless sense of excitement for the designs to come. The backdrop highlighted the vintage undertones of the collection, a familiar scene comparable to the most memorable grand entrances depicted in film—dramatic, opulent, and somehow toeing the line between unexpected and customary.
